ABVA to Host Debate on the Implications of the aligned PPPFA on your business: Thursday November 5th 2009

ABVA (the Association of BEE Verification Agencies) is proud to host a facilitated debate around the proposed alignment of the PPPFA (Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act) to the BBBEE Codes on November 5th at the Balalaika Hotel in Sandton at 8:00am.

Numerous stakeholders from government and business have been invited to discuss the proposed changes vis a vis the implications for BBBEE and as to what these changes will mean for businesses in regards to the evaluation of government and general procurement tenders.

Such a debate is central to business interests and specifically in regards to criteria businesses will be required to adhere to for government and procurement tenders. These changes can have serious impacts on many businesses from small to large.

The proposed changes to the PPPFA have sparked much debate and there is both information, and misinformation in the public sphere in regard to this issue. ABVA, as an independent body that is actively engaged in all issues relating to BBBEE and verification, believes in the critical importance of creating a public and formal platform whereby the many sides of the issue can be discussed.

The public and media participation in this event will therefore be critical in regards to having an open debate that discusses all aspects of these proposed changes. As Andile Tlhoaéle, Chairperson of ABVA explains, "the proposed changes from government have stirred up many critical issues that relate not just to BEE verification, but to BEE as a whole. It is imperative that these issues are discussed honestly and in an open and interactive manner. ABVA is proud to host this critically important debate before these changes are finalised and enacted."

The facilitated debate will include representatives from the following organisations:

  • BUSA
  • Department of Treasury
  • the dti
  • Nedlac
  • CBBO

Tickets are R295 to the public and R150 for ABVA, BUSA or CBBO affiliates and members.  Reservations are essential and must be made by contacting ABVA. Phone Maresce on 086 111 2282 or info@abva.co.za
