The APMP SA's aim is to promote, and advance, the proposal management profession in this country. In the pipeline for 2011 to assist it achieve this aim are six seminars, the annual conference and a full day's Foundation Level Accreditation coaching and exam.

APMP SA is also affiliated to APMP International and has adopted their Professional Accreditation Program, the world's first for those working in a bid and proposal environment.

The Program uses a process of examination and competency-based assessment, which is consistent and measured against world best practice standards. There are three levels of accreditation - Foundation; Practitioner and Professional. Each level is tested in a different way and each requires a minimum level of experience.

The new committee intends to have at least 20 Foundation level accredited members by the end of 2011. Currently there are 1 687 APMP members with that accreditation - only 13 of which are in South Africa.

Sandy Pullinger, the first chairperson of APMP SA and managing director of proposal consultancy nFold, recently became the second person in South Africa to achieve Practitioner status, joining the international numbers of 176. Chris Rademeyer, bid manager at Deloitte was the first South African to achieve this level and has subsequently gone on to the next level of accreditation, namely Professional. An interview with Rademeyer is featured in the current issue of AMPA International's journal.
