VERNON Whyte has been married three times -- and always to the same woman. Whyte, now 58, first married his wife Gwen in 1975.

Because he was ethnically Chinese and she white, they did so in Lesotho. Upon returning to SA, they were breaking the race laws of the time, so Gwen had herself reclassified as Chinese.
