Big retailers deny claims of BEE neglect

Some of the retailers accused of not doing enough for black economic empowerment (BEE) have vehemently dismissed this assertion, labelling it as misleading.



Suzanne Ackerman-Berman, Pick n Pay's transformation director, said it had always been their philosophy that its employees should be owners of the business and to this end, the company instituted an employee share ownership scheme (ESOP) soon after its inception in 1970.
