'Black empowerment is no easy ride'

WESTERN Cape businessman and former MEC for economic development Chris Nissen told delegates at a broad- based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) summit held in George at weekend that becoming empowered was no easy ride.

"Everyone must roll up their sleeves and work hard to bring value to businesses. Gone are the days when a black or brown person could expect something for nothing," Nissen said, adding the new BBBEE legislation came at a time when businesses were battling to survive.
