Broaden base of bank BEE -- Phosa
AFRICAN National Congress (ANC) treasurer-general Mathews Phosa says there should be less concern about adding another 5% to the black economic empowerment (BEE) ownership of major financial institutions, and more focus on making BEE truly broad-based.
Phosa, addressing a dinner of the Financial Sector Campaign Coalition yesterday, said he realised his opinion may be unpopular but the ANC believed sucsess lay in defining how people at the bottom of the wealth pyramid were drawn into the economy.
