Call for socialisation 'beyond state'

THE South African Communist Party (SACP) has called for an amendment to the Petroleum Resources Development Act in order to ensure the socialisation of SA's mineral wealth beyond formal state control.



The SACP's move comes amid a fierce debate between it and the African National Congress (ANC) Youth League about nationalising the mines. The league has insisted that state-led nationalisation is necessary to ensure proper transfer of the country's mineral wealth.
