Co-operatives grab state's attention
The government was considering several options including preferential tendering and a favourable tax regime to encourage the formalisation of co-operatives, according to Tshediso Matona, the director-general of the department of trade and industry.
Speaking on behalf of trade and industry minister Mandisi Mpahlwa yesterday at the first international conference for co-operatives in Durban, Matona said that preferential tendering for co-operatives was one of the major drivers of their development in many parts of the world.
