Competitive world of private banking is rapidly changing

The "private bank" label can be a misnomer in brand-conscious South Africa. There are private banks that cater for the super rich and there are banks that use the label to attract affluent clients who fancy flashing private bank plastic.

Private banking in South Africa is a work in progress. It is much more about wealth creation than wealth management and preservation. Transactional banking is a given. It is hard to differentiate between the banks' offerings.
