CRG targeting energy mineral production in the Central Rand Basin
JSE-listed Central Rand Gold (CRG), which has started trial mining for gold on Slot 8 of the Main Reef Leader, in the Central Rand Basin, says its next target is the uranium-bearing Bird Reef.
"The Bird Reef can produce extremely high grade uranium ore. We are still drilling holes in the reefs, which have been mined before, but not for uranium," says technical manager Stephen Kearns, explaining that the decision to mine the Main Reef Leader first was made because "it is the reef the company is most familiar with".
