Deputy president warns on widening wealth gap

The biggest beneficiaries of post-apartheid South Africa's stellar growth were the rich, a situation that was "politically and economically" unsustainable, deputy president Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka said yesterday.


Speaking at the launch of the second annual report of the accelerated and shared growth initiative for South Africa (Asgisa), Mlambo-Ngcuka told an audience of community workers, politicians and diplomats that the "rich have become very rich - both black and white".
