Empowerment machine is due for streamlining

Black economic empowerment (BEE) as a policy of this government is non-negotiable. It is, in fact, one of the major cornerstones of post-1994 economic policy. The issue at stake, as a key element of political discourse, is how to improve on the current framework and policies.



We need to manage this policy in an economic environment that is not likely to produce the kind of growth we predicted a few years ago. This environment will have a substantial influence on not only the size of the BEE transactions that we see, but also their nature, funding, and the industries in which they are attractive.
