Insurance sector's numbers trauma is self-inflicted

It's true that South Africans need to increase their life insurance cover. But one can't but think that there must be another motive behind the rather hefty underinsurance figures quoted by the Life Offices' Association last week. Could these figures not be a ploy to shock consumers into buying more insurance products?

Not so long ago, the life insurance industry's fortunes were dealt a mighty blow by the critical comments of Vuyani Ngalwana, who has since vacated the seat of pension fund adjudicator.
