Local Bid Specialist Achieves International Accreditation

A local bid specialist has become the only person in South Africa to enjoy Practitioner Level accreditation from the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP), a global organisation formed 22 years go to advance the arts, sciences, and technology of new business acquisition and to promote the professionalism of those engaged in those pursuits.

The APMP offers the world's first Professional Accreditation Program for those working in a bid and proposal environment. This uses a process of examination and competency-based assessment, which is consistent and measured against world best practice standards.

There are three levels of accreditation - Foundation (of which there are 1 975 accredited worldwide), Practitioner (176 worldwide) and Professional (46 worldwide). To maintain accreditation individuals are required to participate in a Continuing Professional Development program, earning CEU (Continuing Education Unit) credits in accordance with defined standards.

Sandy Pullinger, first chairperson of APMP South Africa and MD of proposal consultancy nFold, achieved her accreditation on January 28 and, in doing so, became the 2nd person in South African ever to obtain this status. Chris Rademeyer, bid manager at Deloitte was the first and he has gone on to the next level of accreditation, namely Professional. Pullinger has set her sights on the next level too. And she recognizes the 13 people in South Africa who have passed the Foundation level exam.

"To win more business, the science of writing proposals is just as important as the art," said Pullinger. "My accreditation benefits the proposal community, nFold, and our customers, so I am thrilled to have achieved this milestone. I hope that many more proposal writers will do the same."

nFold has pioneered proposal software, training and consulting services in South Africa since 2001. It co-founded the local chapter of the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP) in 2009 and was instrumental in hosting the first South African APMP conference which attracted 70 delegates eager to learn, network and enhance their proposal writing skills.
