Localisation a priority for rolling stock renewal programme

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) expects to start the tender process for the local manufacturing of rolling stock by March next year.



At the agency's second market engagement meeting, held in November, Prasa project manager Piet Sebola reaffirmed that fore- cast commuter rail volumes and market engagement had indicated that more than 7 200 new commuter coaches would have to be procured over a 20-year period at a cost of more than R123.5-billion.
