MIC offers small farmers access to big retailers
BEE investor the Mineworkers'' Investment Company (MIC) has committed R2m in funding to assist small-scale farmers in rural areas.
The model is designed to turn subsistence farms into self-sustaining micro-businesses that create job opportunities. The model also relies heavily on giving beneficiaries improved market access to retailers Oren Fuchs, special projects manager at MIC, said the aim of making funds available for agricultural activities was to assist poor farmers to commercialise their farming while increasing the value and quality of their produce.
