Mpilende Foods doesn't rely on BEE status for long-term success
Mfundo Thango, the owner of Mpilende Foods, has all the hallmarks of a stereotypical black economic empowerment (BEE) entrepreneur: a flashy 4X4, offices in a posh suburb, government contracts and access to other connected empowerment players.
But Thango says his BEE status is the last thing he uses to market his company or himself. Instead, he relies on his skills, employing qualified people and complying with industry standards.
