New edge needed to revive ailing factories
THE health of SA's manufacturing is a Holy Grail for many disparate parties, including the government, industry and the unions. But much needs to be done to stop the sector from slipping further into neglect.
Over the years the sector has gone from providing about 25% of SA's gross domestic product, to about 17% now, and is generally in need of developing an internationally competitive and innovative edge.
