Retailers 'shirking' BEE

The Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) came under fire during the Black Management Forum (BMF) annual convention session last week for not doing enough to foster black economic empowerment (BEE) on the JSE.



During a session discussing black ownership on the JSE, shareholder activist Theo Botha blasted the GEPF in particular for letting retail companies off the BEE hook. Botha presented a list of retail companies who, he said, appeared not to be interested in BEE, despite benefiting the emergence of the black middle class.
