SA mining sector falls behind in BEE ownership, employment equity compliance

The mining and quarrying sector was lagging behind in implementing the black economic empowerment (BEE) scorecard measurements, said financial services firm KPMG on Thursday.

The third annual KPMG BEE survey reflected seven categories in accordance with the Department of Trade and Industry's codes of good practice. These categories included employment equity, enterprise development, skills development, socio-economic development, ownership, management control, and preferential procurement.
