Small coal exporters have plan B to beat Richards Bay cuts

Small empowered Richards Bay coal exporters are putting in place contingency plans in case the allocations they were expecting are cut back next year because of insufficient rail capacity.

Karl Gribnitz, the chief executive of SA Coal Mining Holdings, said on Friday that one of the options being explored was selling export-quality coal to local businesses with boilers, such as paper plants and hospitals.
