Solomon's mine redux
A wild and wooly year in platinum draws rapidly to a crunching close.
JOHANNESBURG - Thursday's AGM reinstatements of recently-fired Wesizwe CEO and chairman, Mike Solomon and Robert Rainey, marks - for now - the end of an extraordinary year for platinum counters in southern Africa, which produces more than two-thirds of the world's noble metals.
Wesizwe, which has a ready-to-build mine near Sun City, a huge casino complex north west of Johannesburg, has been unable to raise the billions of rands in capital required to get its build show on the road.
