Electricity prices have to rise several times if SA's needs are to be met, writes Jim Jones.



Eskom's figures for coal demand and prices speak for themselves. Since 2003, collieries tied to Eskom power stations have been providing a declining portion of the utility's coal needs -- down from 99% in 2003 to an estimated 79% in Eskom's fiscal 2008.
