Walmart prioritises transformation as a core company value

A question that a lot of people are asking right now is: what does it mean for a local company's broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) policies when it gets bought out by a foreign investor?



It's a question which I happen to know is taxing quite a few minds in a town called Bentonville, Arkansas. I know this because we at Transcend, a Johannesburg-based transformation, empowerment and social responsibility consultancy, have been advising Walmart for some time on the empowerment and transformation aspects of its planned takeover of Massmart.
