Women set sights on tourism businesses

The ground-breaking gender protocol signed for the Southern African Development Community region at the recent summit in Johannesburg threw into relief the yawning gap that needs to be closed before gender equality becomes a reality in Africa.

The protocol calls for 50% representation at all levels of government by 2015 and a guarantee of gender-sensitive political and policy structures that will provide equal opportunity for women in the region.
