Recent deals could drop 'underwater'

MANY corporate deals struck over the past few years could find themselves "underwater" as share prices on the JSE have plummeted in line with international markets.



Simon Venables, corporate finance leader at PricewaterhouseCoopers, said this week it was important to note that those deals did not pose a subprime risk to the banks that had funded them. Further, they could be saved through appropriate rescue mechanisms, he said.
